Please note that the definitions included in this Glossary reflect the manner in which these terms are used on Medicare in general.

Letter icon
The use of a machine to help perform functions a normal kidney would do, such as filtering your blood from any waste, toxins, or excess fluids.
Medicare Part B coverage offers up to 6 sessions of education from your doctor or other healthcare provider when you have Stage IV Chronic Kidney Disease and receive treatment from that provider. This initiative educates on kidney function, treatment, changes in diet, exercise regimens and other physical or mental health topics and more.
A procedure in which a person whose kidneys are failing is given a healthy kidney from a living or deceased donor.
