Please note that the definitions included in this Glossary reflect the manner in which these terms are used on Medicare in general.

Letter icon
A phase of Medicare Part D Prescription Drug plans that keeps you from having to pay a lot of money out of pocket for prescription drugs. It usually starts after a specific amount has been spent on your drug coverage.
Medicare pays for durable medical equipment (DME), like a powered wheelchair, that is first rented instead of bought because of how expensive it is.
A medically supervised program to help people who have had a heart attack, heart failure, angioplasty, or heart surgery to improve heart health.
A nurse, a specially trained educator, or a doctor who will evaluate your needs and give you customized advice and care plans on how to best manage your health problems.
Those who help and support people who are temporarily or permanently unable to function or who can function but not as well as they could.

Medicare confirms the safe and acceptable use or quality of care of a provider or service that promotes performance and effectiveness otherwise Medicare won't pay for care from a health care provider or service who isn't certified by Medicare.
Testing for the human papillomavirus (HPV), cervical cytology (commonly known as the Pap test or Pap smear), or both are included in screenings. A pelvic exam will help identify alterations in cervix cells that may develop into cancer.
